You are expecting or even thinking of conceiving! You know you want a doula. There are so many! Girl, you've got to feel it out and do your research. Even an amazing doula will not meet everyone's needs. When it comes to hiring me or any doula, here is what you should know:

• Do we click? Finding a doula is a lot like dating or when you know you've just met your best friend.
• Does she LOVE the type of birth you're envisioning? I was a doula first, but I was a labor register nurse for 7 years. There truly is no wrong way to birth. If you want to be in a hospital and have access to all the meds or you want a free birth with a guide connected to ancient feminine practices there is a doula for you. There is a type of birth each doula feels more of a connection to. Know what you want and feel out WHO will be the best fit.
• How much involvement do you want your doula to have in your life? On one end you can have a doula you call when you go into labor, you say your goodbyes after your baby's born. On the other end of the spectrum you may want a doula who you see weekly for months during your prenatal period, at your birth and have months of postpartum care afterwards.
• You may also want to ask about cultural or spiritual practices.
• Years of experience or amount of births attended
• Its good practice to get clear about expectations on both ends in regards to payments and visits.
